What is Shea Butter
Shea Butter is fat that has been extracted from the nut of the African Shea Tree. When raw, it is ivory in colour, and stays solid at warm temperatures. As this wonderful tree is native to West Africa, most Shea Butter comes from there. Due to its high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids, it has an amazing, easy-to-spread consistency, which is why it is so conditioning for your skin and easy to apply. Shea Butter is naturally very conditioning and nourishing.
What is Shea Butter Made From?
Whilst this is technically a ‘nut’ originating product, the proteins that can trigger allergies are sparse, which is why Shea Butter is literally suitable for all skin types. What’s more, there are no irritants or chemical nasties in our Shea Butter beauty products, and once applied it does not clog pores.
Some mainstream Shea Butter products in the market currently contain chemical properties that can actually dry out the skin, with our ones they are all about the nourishment and natural components.
What is Shea Butter Good For?
Shea Butter is truly multifunctional and is the ideal cosmetic ingredient for any beauty product that boasts skin softening properties. Here is just a small list of body problems and parts that this wonderful butter is good for:
- Suitable for all skin types.
Containing high levels of Oleic and Linoleic Acid, these two elements actually balance each other out, making it is easy for your skin to fully absorb the Shea Butter without making your skin greasy or oily after being applied. As well as this, it is incredibly moisturizing. Its high fatty acid content, and inclusion of natural oils act as a refatting agent, reducing dryness and locking in moisture, protecting you from the outside elements.
- It can help against many different skin problems such as Acne.
Due to its variation of fatty acids, these elements unionize with each other, helping you to keep your skin clear of excess oil (otherwise known as Sebum). In addition to this, the restorative, locked-in benefits prevent your skin from drying out or stripping it of its natural oils (Sebum), keeping those nutrients in the epidermis layers of your skin.
By promoting the natural balance of healthy oils in your skin, you may be able to stop the acne before it has a chance to start. Further to this, these same properties can aid with itching relief. By soothing itchy skin, Shea Butter can provide relief from inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
- Helps reduce scarring and stretch marks
Stretch marks can occur for a number of reasons, you may have them from puberty, weight gain or loss, and pregnancy. Whilst there are many creams and medicinal beauty treatments and products out there, just the simple use of Shea Butter can make a whole lot of difference.
While it has not been proven medically, there has been some mention of Shea Butter preventing scar tissue (Keloid Fibroblasts) from reproducing, and instead, motivating healthy skin cell growth, thus minimizing the appearance of scarring and stretch marks.
Just to labor this point a little further on skin cell growth, promoting new cell generation can also help reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Shea Butter contains triterpenes, which are naturally occurring chemical compounds that are a considered element in deactivating collagen fiber destruction.
This helps make your skin plumper, and as a result, makes an ideal addition to your summer beauty routine, in protecting your skin against the sun. With an estimated SPF of four, Shea Butter can be an effective sunscreen.
- It’s got the Three A’s - Antifungal, Anti-Inflammatory, and Antioxidant.
With strong levels of vitamin A and E, Shea Butter has strong antioxidant properties. It also contains phytosterols, which boast anti-inflammory benefits. Antioxidants in natural-ingredient based beauty products, help protect your skin from dangerous elements that lead to dull-looking skin and premature aging.
Furthermore, beauty products that have ingredients from Shea Trees, have been known to help fight against skin infections caused by fungi. Whilst Shea Butter is not a common medical product, it has been proven to kill spores from the fungi that cause us to get athletes foot and ringworm.
